You get two tips this month, courtesy of the experiences of one of my clients and of yours truly.

Every twelve months, take the side cover off your computer system box/ tower/CPU. Vacuum inside. An awful lot of dust collects inside – you will be appalled - and it may cause a fire.

When there is a thunderstorm, as well as turning off your computer and its peripherals e.g. scanner and printer etc. and taking the plug out of the power point, unplug your modem. Millions of volts later, our ADSL modem was destroyed; luckily two days before the contract expired.
